The Associated Press started giving out the NFL MVP award in 1957, and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the most recent winner of the prestigious honor, being crowned the league’s top individual player at the 2025 NFL Honors.
Allen was the favorite to win the award for a good portion of the year, but Lamar Jackson’s odds made a charge as the season wound down.

The vote ended up being the closest since 2016, when Matt Ryan topped Tom Brady.
Allen received 27 first-place votes to Jackson’s 23, and Allen finished with 383 points. However, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback was named first-team All-Pro over Allen, making the Buffalo signal-caller the first outright MVP winner to not be a first-team All-Pro since John Elway in 1987.
Let’s take a look at the MVP oddsboard for next season at DraftKings Sportsbook as of June 26.

Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson
It’s no surprise to see Jackson and Allen projected as the favorites to win the award, especially after Allen won his first and Jackson finished not far behind.
Both quarterbacks will enter their 2025-26 campaigns with an impressive list of accolades from last year.
The reigning MVP had a tremendous season, notching 41 total touchdowns — 28 passing, 12 rushing and one receiving. Allen made NFL history by becoming the first player to record 25 or more passing touchdowns, 10 or more rushing touchdowns and a receiving score in a single season.
As mentioned, Jackson finished second in last year’s MVP race. Through his seven NFL seasons, the Ravens’ QB has already claimed the MVP title twice.
In 2024, Jackson led the league in passer rating (119.6), QBR (77.3), touchdown percentage (8.6), yards per pass attempt (8.8) and air yards per pass attempt (10.15).
He threw for a career-high 4,172 yards, recording 41 passing touchdowns and just four interceptions, while also adding 915 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. His passer rating of 119.6 ranks as the fourth-highest in the league, behind Aaron Rodgers (2011, 2020) and Peyton Manning (2004).
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow follows closely with +650 odds, having led the league with 4,918 passing yards last season.
The first three non-quarterbacks to crack the oddsboard are Saquon Barkley (+5000), Derrick Henry (+6000) and Jahmyr Gibbs (+8000).
Barkley made history last year by surpassing Terrell Davis’ record of 2,476 rushing yards in a season, including the playoffs. He finished the season with 2,504 total rushing yards.
Christian McCaffrey and Bijan Robinson are next at +10000.
The last non-quarterback to win the award was Adrian Peterson in 2012, preceded by LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006, Shaun Alexander in 2005, and Marshall Faulk in 2000.
